To go or not to go: Prom

Prom now is a mix of unity, pictures, laughs, and most importantly a celebration of achievement. Prom in Forsyth Satellite Academy will take place on June 8th. Students all fell into two categories: not going because they’re not apart of the community and going because its an event of excitement.

Prom just isn't an celebratory event. Jenny, the parent coordinator, says prom is “a celebration of the students achievements of the year, new friends ships, old friendships, broken friendships, and just memories.’’

Morgan, a student at Forsyth, talked about attending prom saying, “yes, because I always wanted to go to prom and I know people here so I feel like it would be fun.’’

However, there are students that do not feel apart of the community. Anneika, a student in Forsyth, stated, “I just got here and I don't really know anyone.” I then asked if not attending Forsyth’s prom had to do with it being an alternative school. She answered “no’’.

Jenny further shared that ‘ticket sales are really down right now because there are students saying they want to go but haven’t actually purchased any tickets.’’

Prom is a student choice and not something that Forsyth has always had. If

the percentage of people attending prom doesn’t increase then, “prom will still go on, it would still go on it would just be sad and the school would have to pay out more money,’’ Jenny added.

Prom is a great aspect in our culture today, and should be a positive part of the culture and community in Forsyth.
