Tennessee waffle house shooting

On monday April 22nd 2018 Travis Jeffery Reinking walked into a waffle house half naked with an AR-15 shooting and killing 4 people and injuring another 2. Reinking was arrested after a 34 hour manhunt on april 23. Reinking was mentally troubled and his motives are unclear. He has a past with the law being arrested once before for unlawful entry when trying to set up a meeting with the president, but the court dismissed the case after he did 32 hours of community service and being told to stay away from the white house. After this incident Illinois State Police took away his firearm owners identification card(FOID) which he needed to legally own a gun, so he gave his guns to his dad who had a valid card.

During the shooting James Shaw Jr a customer at the waffle house tackled Reinking and knocked the weapon out of his hand as he was reloading and tossed it over the counter. This got Reinking to leave the gun and ammunition and flee the scene. James shaw only suffered a bullet grazing his shoulder while fighting with him. Many are complaining about how easy it is for someone to get access to a gun.

Even after many red flags including invading the white house and trying to set up a meeting with the president, and getting the police called on him for walking around with only a pink dress on and being naked. When talking to student Lucas from Grand Street Campus he stated “Gun laws are not strict enough and this whole shooting could have been prevented if we had stricter gun laws”. He is obviously mentally ill and he could still get a gun even after having his Firearm owners identification card taken away. This shows how easy it really is for someone to have access to a gun even when there not supposed to.
