Many people who are a part of the LGBT community can occasionally feel like they’re alone or are afraid to speak up because of how others might view them. However, anyone who is apart of LGBT or is even supportive of the community can come to the new group being formed in Forsyth.
The LGBT community group is a place to bond with others and not be afraid to speak up about anything.
In an interview with Anita Torres, a teacher here a Forsyth Satellite Academy, she stated, “I wanted to start this group because I felt there was a need for a more comfortable place to talk about issues that arise is our community. Some may even be cisgender or heterosexual friends who are supportive of the community.”
It’s ok to let out things and not hold them in and it’s ok to know that there are other people that are just like you.
She also stated, “It’s a lot more comfortable when you have other people who have gone through the same struggles. Who’ve experienced the same things, who’ve experienced the same guilt or shame or fight. This group is more of a place to start healing and have more support. The vision of the students here is important. I want us to be able to come together. This club is for you guys and to help you all. So we can remember that we’re not alone and that we do have people who will be there, support us and help us feel better about ourselves and sexuality.”
In this community it’s okay to be who you are without hating yourself and be who you are with the support of others who may be just like you.
In another interview with Angelica Rodriguez, a student here at Forsyth Satellite Academy, she stated, “The purpose of this group is to bring people who are in different sections of LGBT so we can feel more empowered.”
Being apart of LGBT can be hard and make you feel as if you’re alone. It can also make it seem like you’re you don’t fit in because of your sexuality.
She also stated, “This group is like a big family. This is also a place for people to accept themselves more because they can also see that other people are also in the process of accepting themselves. It’s totally ok to be yourself.”
This group is not just for people apart of LGBT but people who are supportive of LGBT as well. This is a place for support, acceptance and healing. It’s so we know that we’re not alone and that there’s others just like us.
This group will meet every Wednesday at 3:15pm in room 209. We can learn about the history or LGBT and speak of what we’ve been through. It’s time for us to be able to come together as one and no longer feel like we have no one there and no support. Let’s take a stand together and be proud of our community!
