Are teens and adults are addicted to their smartphone?

Teens and adults are using their smartphones everyday and can be on them for hours, this habit is beginning to look like an addiction. Researchers from Korea University in Seoul used imaging to study the brains of 19 teenage boys were diagnosed with internet or smartphone addiction. This also compared with 19 teenagers who are not addicted.

This leads the brain of addicted boys and girls who has significantly higher level of GABA. A GABA slows down the neurons, according to Yildirim, who was not involved in the Korea study said “ that results in poorer attention and control, which you don't want to have, because you want to stay focused. So that mean you are more vulnerable to distractions.” This means that teens are too dependent on their smartphone and are basically damaging their ability to be attentive.

According to CNN “ nearly 80% of teens in the new survey said that they checked their phones hourly, and 72% said they felt the need to immediately respond to texts and social networking messages.” this shows how teenagers are more likely to use their smartphones a lots just to check any updates that have to deal with their social media. Teenagers are often to walk near the walls so they can move from class to class without them looking away from their smartphones. This show how teens often uses their phones. It become a distraction for them in school and what is around them just because they want to check for their social network.

There been times when teenages would walk up or down the stairs and they would tumbles down the stairs and often will just slow down until they reach to another wall while still looking at the screen and they are more often to be late to their classes.

Teens are addicted to their phone too but there are also adults like parents and teachers that are addicted to their smartphones too. According to CNN “Parents might complain about their teens or students on how the amount they uses their smartphones. 27% of adults feel they are addicted to their mobile devices.”

In Forsyth Satellite Academy a couple of teaches was asked how often they uses their phones. And do they think using a smartphone in this generation can cause many problems for teens and adults. Most of the teachers that were asked said “yes”.

When Chris, Jessica, Aaron , Liz and Shana who are teaches/staffs at Forsyth, was asked how often do they use their phones. There were many similar answer while this question was being asked. Chris said “Throughout the day, maybe not teacher but about 10 minutes or an hour.” This shows how often he uses his phone but between them hours he reads a book that is actually on his phone. Jessica was also asked and she said “3 hours or 4 hour.” but in those 3 or 4 hours she listens to podcast and anything that is school related.
