School Safety: Should They Be Allowed to Carry Weapons During School?

Every morning at Forsyth Satellite Academy students arrive and are greeted by the school safety officers. School safety officer are posted in every public school in the city and often look like police. That provide security for the students and visitors at the school building and surrounding areas.The New York City Police Department School Safety is a law enforcement agency for the school district. School safety agents are assigned to the police academy up to 17 weeks.This means that they don't have the same job with NYPD but they work in the same organization, They may look like one but their jobs are totally different.

Guns should not be the reason why students or anyone around it feel safe. Andrea a teacher at Forsyth Satellite Academy said, “I feel comfortable if school safety would have guns because they are trained in case of an emergency, but on the other hand i'm not a fan of guns and I don't necessary believe that guns makes anybody safer. In Forsyth Satellite Academy school safety have been helpful and always have our backs and support , they are in the front line when someone walks in the door. They are the eyes and the ears from our building.” In other words school safety should not be carrying any weapon because they are the school role model of the building.

School should be a safe and learning environment in which people don't have to worry about their safety at anytime. School safety agent should not have any weapon to target anyone but have better securities at their entrance. Katherine another teacher from Forsyth Satellite stated “ I dont think its necessary for school safety to have gun, I think a lot can go wrong if school safety were to have one during school. Attending to George Mason High School in Virginia , we had 2 police officers assigned to our school and they carried 9mm glock, handcuffs, taser, mace and I never saw him using the gun or any other weapons besides the taser in which he had to use to tase a man that ran into the school and got tase and also handcuffed. With that being said i don't believe school safety should not have guns because they are were not useful before then they should not be useful now.” With that being said, school safety should not be allowed to carried any weapons that can be used to harmed others.

The city's school safety officers are trained to get students and teachers to safety instead of confronting shooters in schools. However, guns are dangerous and the person carrying it may not be responsible but others believe it's necessary for school safety to have guns during school. According to David “ One thing about school safety in this school is that they don't do much but stay down stairs, I feel like they should carry guns especially now and days with school shooting. I honestly had an experience with school safety when I got into a situation and they were rough on me.And caused pain.” This means that they can get rough at time but imagine if other things unexpected happens.
