Among the many graduates of Forsyth Satellite Academy many of them are parents or expecting parents. Each parent that will walk across the stage as a high school graduate will not only do it for themselves, but someone who will grow to call them mommy or daddy. Becoming pregnant in high school has been looked at as a negative factor & often automatically looked at as a statistic.
According to NCSL “40% of teen mothers finish high school.” This statistic means that over half of teen moms do not graduate with their high school degree. It is the job of schools to provide all students with a chance to graduate, and with less than half of teen moms receiving their diploma, this shows a failure that should not be accepted.
In Forsyth Satellite Academy they’re very supportive on helping those that are expecting or current parents. In the building there is a daycare that Forsyth allows you to bring your children to free of charge, from 2 months up until 5 years old. With this extra support and child care services it allows mothers a chance to finish school.
One graduate of Forsyth Satellite Academy stated “I turned [my pregnancy] into motivation, not only for me but for other females. I knew I had somebody to do it for and I know other females watched being that pregnancy attracts attention, and I know that if females see me do it with a kid they can do it too, especially kidless.”
