The Constitution is supreme law of the United States. Yet, not enough students are aware of the contents within this important document, and have the opportunity to learn this information at the website, constitutionus.com.
The Constitution of The United States outlines the boundaries of the US government. It establishes the rights and privileges of each and every US citizen. It allows the government to create the system of courts and laws we have today.
However, it represents much more than this. Floyd G. Cullop, author of “The Constitution of The United States: An Introduction” says it best. Cullop himself writes, “...this Constitution is the most important thing in the lives of every person living in the United States. Your way of life is built around it… to be ignorant of the Constitution is to be ignorant of all the things your country is… and of the truths its people have believed to be above all others in the relationship between human beings and government.” Those truths are the beliefs that we, as human beings, deserve better than to be living under tyrannical and abject conditions, and deserve to have all the say on the type of nation we desire to live in.
The Constitution entails the rights that enable us to express ourselves as individuals and allow us to find the route that leads to our contentment. Taiyo Ebato, a teacher at Forsyth Satellite Academy, said that he believes the Constitution is important and actively cites it as being the source of his rights, stating it has allowed him to explore different religions, express himself through his writing, and take part in the act of protesting against the unjust actions of the police.
“Yes, I believe the Constitution of US is important. It’s important to have laws and to have order. It’s also important to have rights, and I believe that other students should learn about the Constitution as well in order to know about the rules and laws.” says an anonymous student at Forsyth.
The writing of the Constitution was proposed on May 27, 1787 during a meeting being held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the revision of the former constitution of the United States, “The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union”. The delegates at the convention decided it would be best to develop an entirely new constitution rather than revise the antediluvian one. In the Preamble of the Constitution, six reasons are stated as the why the document was written to begin with: “in order to form a more perfect union,” “to establish justice,” “to insure domestic tranquility,” “to provide for the common defense,” “to promote the general welfare,” and lastly, “to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”
