Standard of beauty for dark skin females

“You make me want to like darkskin females.’’

As I've gotten older my skin has become more appealing but only “for a darkskin girl’’. Growing up I never felt that my tone wasn’t pretty or would be turned into a negative image. Throughout all medias my skin has been broadcasted to be appealing only when glistening and coated with a shiny product.

Two dark complected females, Kiana and Sasha, stated, “you’re accepted if you’re black but you have to be lightskin.’’

This has become so important because I too am a dark complected woman. I would like for my skin to be simply viewed as pretty & flawless without having to hear “for a darkskin girl’’ after. It bothers me to know that we’re seen as rare or need to fit to society's idea of beauty.

Skin colors seem to come with rules of how they are talked about and defined which can be insulting. Humans should be able to just be themselves.

“Coffee with a touch of milk, just a touch’’ was Shana’s definition of her melanin magic.

Model Nyakim Gatwech was told by an uber driver that she should “bleach her skin.’’ Nyakim, also referred to as Queen of the Dark on instagram, turned the hate of darkskin females into positivity by posting her flawless pictures with one captioned “too dark for who or what exactly’’.

I want for the beauty our sun-kissed completion to become a social norm for upcoming dark skinned women.
