The rising problem with the MTA and it's train delays should be no surprise to anyone, but who should be responsible for student latenesses? Students or the MTA? On one hand you have the MTA where the trains sometimes are around 25 minutes late or are very packed which causes people to wait even longer because they cannot get in the train.
An example of a ridiculous delay According to the New York Times ““There was a disruption in service, specifically signal trouble, sick customer, brakes in emergency and track circuit failure, which caused massive service delays, reroutes and/or trains to be discharged on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, F, J, L, M, N, Q and R lines,” one recent response read, in part. “As a result, any one delay lasted up to 82 minutes.” This is just one of many examples of train delays people can experience.
Taiyo, a Forsyth teacher, said, “Sometimes the trains can be an excuse especially because the train problems have been really bad this year, but it also means you just have to leave home earlier to get to school on time.”
But should students be responsible if they arrive late? Yes subway delays are everyday in New York City, but that is something everybody knows is a regular thing so students should be responsible because they know how long the trains take so students should take precautionary action in order to get to school on time such as leaving 10, 20, even 30 minutes early. This ensures your attendance remains 100 percent and you don't have to worry about the delays that come your way because you left early. Yes it may mean sacrificing some of your sleep but a simple answer to that is to go to sleep at an earlier time.
Being on time is a skill that everyone has to learn because when you are done with regular school. The next step work or college requires nearly perfect attendance so it is important to always be on time an make an example out of yourself.
