Guatemalan cuisine is different from American food, not only in flavor but in the way it is grown. The climate in Central America allows crops to flourish and thrive year-round. The food is less processed which forces people living there to eat and live healthier lifestyles.
In a interview with Marcelo Trigueno a former resident of Guatemala for 24 years stated, “ In Guatemala if I wanted seafood , fish in particular I could just go down by the sea and catch my fish , but now being in America I go to the supermarket and I have to choose wisely from all the fish and it really stinks.” In a study done by CDC, processed food overall takes a toll on a person's diet and causes overweight/ obese people.
Guatemala has your typical Spanish dishes such as: enchiladas, guacamole, tamales, and tortillas. Overall Guatemalan cuisine is less processed and more healthier for the body, so next time you take a trip stop by Guatemala and try our great fresh cuisine.
