17 Beautiful Lives

On February 14th 2018, Nikolas Cruz a 19 year old former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shot and killed 17 students. Reason being is because he was expelled last year due to disciplinary reasonings. His revenge was getting back at the school by killing innocent students.

Statistics show that people in the United States there about 270,000,000 people who own guns which makes us to be the highest capital with an armed weapon. Majority of the time it is unlicensed, which makes it easier for schools shootings such as Sandy Hook, Great Mills High and ofcourse Marjory Stoneman. Data shows that the most killings from schools shooting Gun violence is a huge issue already due to the amount of killings that happen yearly just from shootings. Sadly schools is one of the major places where shootings happen.

Students and staff here at Satellite had a lot to say when it came to expressing their feelings on gun violence.

Kenya: What are your opinions on gun violence?

Jennifer(Staff Member): It’s horrible, it’s unnecessary that is exactly how I feel. People take advantages of having guns, they feel as if because they have guns it’s okay to go around shooting people.

Darina(Student): I believe that Gun Violence should be put to an end and I’m saying this because a lot of the deaths are being done with a armed weapon such as guns. People have a gun and wanna take away innocent lives. Guns in my opinion should be banned.

Jahve(Student): Gun violence has affected people in many ways, people lost their fathers..mothers..cousins..sisters to guns. Sadly even I was shot. It’s something that I don’t think should be banished but not everyone deserves a gun in their hands.

Forsyth students do sympathize with the parents and friends that have lost their loved ones in the shooting and decided to do something to show that they care. Forsyth as well as other public high schools decided to speak up and march/protest about how they really felt about the shootings that have been going on. The protest was supposed to last 17 minutes, each minute represented each child that was killed on February 14th. Other high schools felt so strongly about it they went downtown to march and protest to make sure their voices were heard.

Hopefully messages did get across and something will be done about the gun violence. It is something that needs to be stopped. Not saying guns should be banished because in some ways guns can be used for protection, but not everybody deserves a gun in their hand.
