Are video games leading to more school latenesses and absences?

Kids and teens today play video games for a good amount of their day. It has become a thing some kids and teens can’t live without. And for some people an addiction.

According to a WebMd article, “At an addiction treatment center in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, teenagers and young adults begin detox by admitting they are powerless over their addiction”. Video games can have effects on the person who is playing, positive and negative.

The positives about playing video games for long periods of time is that people who game tend to have better motor skills, better eye-hand coordination, and tend to be better than others at analyzing certain situations and events.

However some of the negatives about gaming that most kids and teens experience are things such as addiction, staying up late at night. The majority of people overlook school absences and latenesses that are possibly being caused by late night gaming. Late night gaming can cause fatigue before sleep and also when you wake up.

This can lead to a severe lack of motivation to arrive at school on time or even at all. What can be done to prevent such tiredness and fatigue ? the student can remind themselves to stop playing video games so late at night and to always remember that they have responsibilities to take care of in the morning. Who should be responsible? That is a very hard question to answer due to many factors involved in the issue. Where do people go if not to school? Students have been known to go to a friends house or even back home when they leave school because they feel as though they are stressed or overworked. Why do students stay up so late at night? Usually students who game stay up is because they want to keep playing with their friends or simply because they want to keep playing till the next level or game. How can others around the student get involved? Others around the student can get involved simply by reminding the child to go to sleep because you gotta get up in the morning.

The urge to play video games can get very overwhelming for some people but you have to remember, it's just a game and life is not. Your duties and responsibilities in life must come first, the games are always there, you just gotta know when enough is enough.
