Every women around 15 to 21 years old love shopping clothes. Although the prices of clothes can be really expensive in some stores. There is a lot of different stores that sells nice and affordable clothes like Forever 21, a store that many women love shopping in. However, Forever 21 has not been able to get prices so low on their own, some of the cost is low because they are not paying their employees.
According to an LA Times article, “Like other major clothing retailers, Forever 21 avoids paying factory workers’ wage claims” because a lot of the profit goes into paying ‘middlemen’. These are people who buy from the retailer and take the clothes to a store - they are often the ones who make the most money.
Laisha De Jesus, a teenager girl, discussed her opinion on the situation,” I love their clothes because they cheaper but since I found out that Forever 21 are abusing their workers and not paying them good enough I decide to boycott that store. It’s really not difficult for me to boycott that store even though they have cheap clothes but I also know a lot of stores that are cheaper and that I can buy my own clothes.” Although she did not know that Forever 21 was not paying their workers, she also feels that clothing costs are to high in general. This put teenagers in a difficult position since they cannot always decide to protest things they need or want.
The New Yorker says, “ It’s a vivid illustration of one reason Forever 21 shoppers keep coming back: with clothes so cheap and flimsy, they need to return often to replenish their closets.”
