High school drama can affect on serious relationship

Dating in high school and being in a serious relationship can lead to drama and unique challenges. Common issues that students in relationships face are friends ‘butting in’, parents becoming overprotective, and the other pressures of social life in high school.

According to a Lifestyle article, “if you have dated in high school, you already know there is a lot that goes into it besides just hanging out with someone you like. Your friends probably get too involved and your parents are overprotective.” This can cause a lot of stress in your relationship, and is a reason high school loves do not last.

One of the main problems is not talking to your boyfriend / girlfriend if there is an issue that comes up. Do not start talking to your friends before you talk to the person who you are dating. One of the worst things to hear is the person you care about is having concerns but hasn’t voiced them to you which leads into drama.

Skylar Johnson, a student at Forsyth Satellite Academy in a serious relationship, states that, “sit them down and have a conversation and talk about how the situation started. I’ll listen to what they have to say and I decide whether take their advice or not because at the end of the day its not their relationship. One of the main challenges I faced was someone having a crush on my boyfriend but bit depends on whether your relationship if it’s in school then yeah it can affect your relationship then if it was outside of school.”

From a guy’s perspective Brian Arthur, a student at FSA who has been in serious relationship, states that, “try to talk to the person about the situation. Yeah high school drama can affect your relationship because that the main reason why kids these days have break ups because of high school drama. Usually I would keep things at a certain point where I wont make things public. I have faced some of drama where people like to but in and accume one of us doing something wrong.”
