"Alternatives schools have the potential to create a personalized educational experience for the student that is often not possible in another type of school setting, in particular, a local public school. This type of school can offer smaller class sizes, which benefits the student in multiple ways. A smaller student-to-teacher ratio means more one-on-one interaction that helps a child build confidence. The individual student is never forced to work to a set “class” pace."
So basically this paragraph demonstrates that, Alternative school, they are small academically rigorous full-time high school student who had drops out or have fallen behind in credits.
Alternative High school is for mostly students who are unable to graduate high school in their regular public high school. The differences between these two types of high school are that regular high school only have two semesters for student to earn credits. On the other hand, alternative school has 4 semesters, students earn credits for each cycle. Therefore the benefits of an alternative school are that it's the fastest way for students who are behind graduation schedule for them to earn credits rapidly so they can be on tracks for graduation.
Most commonly, alternative schools are either a remedial/last chance school that focuses on basic coursework and social rehabilitation or a charter school that offers smaller class sizes and individualized programs with high academic standards. you can find an alternative school in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and queens etc.
There are many ways to define an alternative school. For some, the term conjures the image of a school for kids that struggle to succeed at a local public school. Others perceive an alternative school as a posh boarding school with an exclusive student list. Today, the term “alternative” for an educational atmosphere may describe several different types of schools and academic environments.
I had an interview with one of a teacher at Forsyth satellite high school, which happens to be an alternative school. So I interview Aaron lum. Since his a teacher in an alternative high school so I asked him, based on your experienced, how would you describe alternative high school? Aaron said that “ an alternative school is usually for older students, 16-21 years old. And sometimes have the different policy for graduation, Have small classes for students, students usually really focus on their works because its a second chance to make through college. I would rather always choose to teach alternative school than a regular school because students in an alternative high school are very mature.”
